Taming of the Shrews

Yesterday was my second game against the Shrews from Shrewsbury who were the undefeated team. When the game started, our team got up to bat. I was afraid even though I knew that I probably wouldn't be up to bat that inning because they used their ace pitcher and he never had one run scored when he was pitching. Louie struck out. Daniel got a single. Connor walked. Daniel and Connor did a double steal. Man on second and third. Tony had a ground out and Daniel ran home. Our dugout went crazy! Their ace pitcher finally had a run scored on him when he was pitching.

Next inning the pitcher was so afraid of me that he hit me right in my butt so I "took one for the team". The final score was 7-3. Southborough wins! The team that was undefeated is now defeated.

P.S. I think that was the best game Southborough ever played.

Dairy Queen afterwards to celebrate!

  1. Jeffrey,

Q: How many Southborough baseball coaches does it take to change a light bulb? (Woops, wrong joke.)

Q: How many Southborough baseball coaches does it take to take to win against Shrewsbury?

A: Who cares how many there are if you win against the undefeated team!!!

I wish I could have been there because it sounded like a really exciting game. Hope your hind area is recovering quickly. How exactly were you standing that you got hit in the butt? Down here in Maryland, the kids usually face the pitcher, not turn their back on him. Must be some new fangled baseball techniques those coaches are teaching you in Massachusetts...

    What happens next? More games?

  2. The pitcher was throwing the ball too fast that I couldn't get out of the way so I turned so it would hit the back part of my body. That wouldn't hurt as much as hitting my hip bone or somewhere on the side of my body. I was following the advice of my very experienced coaches!

  3. Oh, that explains it. Brendan could have used that advice when he was around your age. He tried to jump out of the way of a wild pitch and it ended up hitting him on the exact opposite side of his butt. CLUNK. Luckily he was wearing a cup!

  5. Jeffrey,
AWESOME! Sounds like your team did an amazing job. Maybe those coaches are worth keeping around for next season after all. Seems like you are having a lot of fun with your friends and that's what matters most. Of course, taming those shrews just adds to the fun.

  6. I really enjoy reading about your team. It sounds like you guys are really good. Had you heard about my team winning the league championship after being seeded 5th out of 5 teams? We beat both the first and second seed teams to win. Here is a link to an article from our local newspaper.

  7. Sean,
Tonight is my next game and we are playing Holliston. Even though we beat them the last time, we still have to play hard because they are a very good team (we always play hard but we need to play really hard tonight).

  8. Dillon,
I did know that you won the Pony League championships. Congratulations! It's great that your team went from 5th to 1st place. It sounds like you had a great game. I hope that I'm still playing baseball when I'm your age. I hope that I can get my slump over with hitting. I haven't had a hit in 3 games and 2 scrimmages.

  9. I think rainy days we lose and sunny days we win. Who's with me?

  10. Hey Jeffrey,

WOW! What a great victory over the Shrews. You even have a bruise to prove your loyalty. How long is your season? It sounds like you have several games each week. What great summer FUN!
